NASA astronaut visiting Iowa City, hosting free "Hidden Figures" screening
Jeanette J. Epps, who became an astronaut in 2009, will visit Iowa City Feb. 22. Her visit will feature visiting Iowa City Community School District students and hosting a free movie screening and discussion of the NASA-centered movie "Hidden Figures."
Epps visit to town was made possible thanks to a collaborative effort between the ICCSD, the Iowa City Police Department, the City of Iowa City, FilmScene, Beloved Community Initiatve at Old Brick and other local groups, Henri Harper, the events organizer, said.
Her visit will be both a celebration of Black History Month and a way to introduce STEM students to a person who has benefited from an education in science, technology, engineering and math.
