Worship with JustChurch on Saturday, July 9
Email us for the Zoom link to connect online.
Join us for Holy Eucharist on Saturday, July 9! Do you know someone who needs to hear that they are known and loved by God and by the Church or someone that needs an open and affirming church community? Bring them with you on Saturday - either in person or online!
This Saturday Pastor Jan R. Schnell will serve as our celebrant and preacher.
Last Saturday we were honored to have Pastor Dorothy Whiston with us as our guest preacher. Thanks to your generous donations in the first quarter of 2022 we are able to donate $751.52 to Inside Out Reentry - 80% of JustChurch’s first quarter offerings. Visit Inside Out’s website to learn more about what they do and how to volunteer.
Upcoming opportunities for JustActions
Iowans for Reproductive Freedom
Interfaith Alliance of Iowa is urging people to attend a rally on July 10 at the statehouse to advocate for abortion access. With the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization—leaving abortion access to be determined at the state level, it is more important than ever to stand together and claim our power to make clear that Iowans need abortion access.
While for now, abortion is still legal in Iowa, our rights will now be determined by state leaders who are already moving to ban abortion in any way they legally can. If you are able, plan to attend the rally and let legislators know we want to protect safe, legal abortion in our state.
Save the Date: Community Meal on August 1
JustChurch/BCI has been invited to host one of the community meals this summer at Weatherby Park. A number of Youth Serving Agencies (Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County, ICCSD, Iowa City Parks and Rec, Dream City, CommUnity, and UAY) have teamed up to better serve our young people this summer. As we’ve seen on the news and heard all over, young people are struggling in our post (ongoing) Covid world. With summer, comes a lot of unstructured time and a concern for our most vulnerable young people and communities. Those orgs have banded together for drop-in programming at Wetherby Park called “Weatherby Nights” (Every Monday from 4-6, food at 5). There will be a DJ, arts opportunities, double dutch, basketball, football, beat-making, video-games and FOOD! Food is another aspect of safety and security that changes and can completely fall away when school is out. And nothing works to build community better than sharing food, fun, and positive adult and peer interactions.
Providing food for this gathering isn’t just about feeding people, it’s about investing in our community and supporting our young people and their families.
