About the Episcopal

The Episcopal Diocese of Iowa is strongly committed to Becoming Beloved Community, including training all our leaders in Dismantling Racism. As of June 2024 we have trained nearly 500 lay and ordained persons with BCI’s Dismantling Racism training. As a result of this, the people of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa have a common language and understanding of racism and injustice. This common understanding and continued learning has led to tangible movement to dismantle racism in our diocese including reparations policy regarding the sale of church property and DEI hiring practices. We also have consistent and growing participation in our worshiping community, JustChurch, that is centered on liberation liturgy and radical faith driven justice. We’ve been able to share this style of worship at clergy events and most recently at the diocesan summer formation weekend, Summer Ministry School and Retreat.
